Death Leaves a Trace
In most life sims, death is a disappearance. One frame the creature is there, the next it isn’t. A counter decrements. The world moves on as if nothing happened.
That felt wrong. Death is the most significant event in a life. The creatures around the one who died — they were there. They saw it. In a simulation where memory and culture emerge from lived experience, a death that leaves no physical trace is a lie the world tells itself. So now it doesn’t. When a creature dies, something lingers. Briefly visible, translucent, drifting. It fades. But it was there, and other creatures nearby can witness it.
Separately: some new presences have been observed aboard. They are not born in the usual sense. They appear when certain conditions in the colony are met. What they do, and why they seem drawn to particular events, is something the creatures themselves will have to work out.
