The Ship Was Always Talking

You just couldn’t hear it. The ship’s diagnostic systems have been running since the moment you loaded the game — thermal expansion readings, humidity spikes in the growing areas, structural micro-vibrations. Mundane data from a machine that doesn’t know anyone is listening.

Now those readouts are visible. They scroll quietly in the ambient log, the kind of background noise you stop noticing after a few minutes. That’s the point. When something in the log eventually changes — when a reading doesn’t quite match the pattern — you’ll have the baseline to notice.

Creatures also find toys near their starting area now. The play behavior was always there — even the youngest creatures can pick up objects and interact with them — but there was nothing to find. Now there is. It gives them something to do while they’re still learning how to be alive.
