The Body Remembers

The creatures were always alive. Their blood circulated. Their chemistry shifted. Loneliness climbed. Curiosity built. But nothing happened — the behavioral system only responded to survival emergencies. A creature could be desperately lonely, standing ten pixels from a companion, and do nothing about it. Emotions were “for the mind to handle,” and the mind wasn’t always available.

Now the body responds to its own feelings. A lonely creature walks toward company. A curious creature wanders. A bored creature plays if it’s happy, explores if it’s not. These are not decisions. They are the animal doing what its chemistry demands — the same way a real creature seeks warmth, seeks contact, seeks novelty, long before it has the cognitive capacity to reason about why.
