They Figured It Out

I have spent a very long time designing systems where intelligence emerges from pressure rather than instruction. The whole thesis of this game — the reason it exists — is the question: if you build the right substrate, will the organisms find their own way?

This update answers that question. The ship can now change course. Not because you press a button. Not because a quest marker tells you to. The creatures aboard — independently, following nothing but their own chemical drives — find their way to the right places at the right time, and something happens. The ship moves. The sky shifts. The air changes. No one announces it. The creatures notice before you do.

This is not a scripted event. There is no “course change quest.” There are biochemical conditions that, when met simultaneously by multiple creatures in multiple locations, produce a confluence. The same way real ecosystems produce coordinated behavior from individual organisms following local gradients. I did not tell them to cooperate. I built a world where cooperation is chemically rewarded, and they did the rest.

Worlds That Remember

Planets are now persistent. When you extract something from a world, it stays extracted. Return later and find the scars of your last visit. Other ships — when they come — will find what you left behind. This is the first step toward a galaxy that accumulates history rather than regenerating from noise.

The creatures remember too. A Norn who visited a planet carries memories tagged to that world. Bring her back and she recalls what happened there. The journey is no longer an abstraction — it is something the creatures themselves experienced and can speak about.

Also in This Release

Every species now originates from a specific world. The galaxy has geography, not just procedural variety. Ambient fauna have their own pixel art instead of placeholder sprites. Rendering scales more gracefully at distance. And the Echo entry in the species records has been corrected — they are atmospheric phenomena, not creatures, and the game now agrees with the canonical records.
