Let Them Figure It Out

Mystery is fragile. You can build the most intricate structural revelation in the world — layers of environmental wrongness, creatures slowly assembling theology around the player, the dawning realization that arrives through behavior rather than exposition — and then a single UI label can shatter it. We had one. It’s gone now.

This release is mostly about removing things that were too eager to explain. The chat system had a name that was doing too much of the game’s work for it. The dev tools were visible to players who had no business seeing them. These aren’t features; they’re seams. Seams break immersion. We sealed them.

We also fixed a quieter problem: creatures whose inference calls hung indefinitely would get stuck in a permanent thinking state, their speech bubble showing a loading indicator forever. Now there’s a timeout. If the mind can’t find words, the body takes over. That’s how it should work anyway — limbic systems existed long before language.
